'Just a little something to break the monotony...'
Consider yourself to be alternative? How about selling all you have and sharing your income with a group of disciples, and all to follow a God the world screams doesn't exist? I've decided to make it personal, all my life is to live giving to others. It's because of Jesus. What you read here is just a taster...

To the most excellent geezer who made covenant last night - nice1 m8. You've got a great adventure ahead of you, glad to be walking with you.
why are so many people so jumpy about covenant? It is one of the most beautiful things in life to know that you and particular others are joined by something beyond a moments fancy or a temporary fad. I love covenant! I love that it expresses the new and the old testaments...and 8 years on i have never regretted making it once. Yes it is a big commitment but then i suppose that is what makes it so totaly amazing when someone else joins us.
aww thank you tj and ok suppose u comvinced me to stay the same abi!:)... anna very true love what you put, i agree that it is an amazing thing to be joined to this church with hundreds of others. wow think of it like that your all well connected and wow omgosh you have an awesome bond with lots of people that you havent even met. man thats brilliant nad well inspireing wow you just made me think of it in a compleately new light thanks anna. covenant is a very very esteemed thing and im in full agreement with it. even though at the moment i am juts a bit to young im still in agreement adnd also community its brilliant cant stop thining about how much you have all scrificed and how much of a reward you are all going to get! wow just its like Gods lfe on earth im just in awe! wow! fwor! God i well love you!
Covenant is the scariest thing I can think of. I'm not joking. It makes me understand what fear means. The more amazing something is, the more you can love it, then the scarieer it becomes. It's awesome.
And calm... I dont know if it's boring cos it's not something that I've ever been!
I think it might have something to do with peace...
Clearly when well settled in it covenant can be as warm and comforting as the womb. But outside there might be a cruel threatening world which will make sure you continue to honour covenant. What happens if you are called to leave covenant and go preach in Ninevah? Will you run and hide like Jonah rather obey the calling?
Appearing calm on the outside can be very misleading at times. I have also felt like covenant is a very big step. I am by no means breezing into it effortlessly. I recognise the responsibility it carries and it is a little scary, I think we will both grow into it and it will become a little more comfortable. A bit like wearing new shoes, I have blisters but know they will go and my shoes will be shaped to fit my feet afterwards (I hope, lol).
But what if God calls you out of covenant to go to Ninevah, will you obey the call? Therefore can you really commit your life to covenant as you say you do? If you claim to have committed yourself in entirety to God and the call is to covenant, then fine, but what if His call comes to elsewhere?
It's not really about committing your life to covenant. We make covenant because our heart and mind tell us that that is what we must do to be true to what the Spirit has shown us. Covenant is inside us already - or the longing for it is. I know plenty of christians who have come amoung us and gone again without making covenant, they still love jesus in the churches they are now in. It's probably going to be them that get 'called to nineva' - and that is just fine by me, because i'm happy to follow Jesus on this path. This path of limiting, binding, restricting, humbleing, painful, hard covenant. I guess when it's the creator and sustainer of all things who calls out for your mean little love, a path like that is worth treading.
I expect God could call me out of covenant. If He does i'll follow but it will take a lot to convince me that it is God calling.
Even the apostle Paul only received the calling to be an apostle (which he mentions at the beginning of countless epistles) when the Spirit spoke to the Body of Christ at Antioch (see Acts 13:1-3). It's about submitting all our "callings" to the great calling to be a covenant people united in the bond of peace, laying down our lives for each other as Jesus commanded (our lives, not just a year or two). If God wants to call us to Ninevah, He'll tell the Body about it. And in these new covenant days, he's likely to send at least a couple of Jonahs!..
humpf... who made covenant... nobody tells me anything agghh!! how annoying agh whats going on??? any thing else i dont know or have missed... anyone?

ReplyDeletePs. here's to my being less calm for Jesus!
'DD'
Well...
ReplyDeleteI get to called to my 'Ninevah' every day and mostly I run in the other direction, eventually obeying when I've been spat out...
Not sure that Ninevah and Covenant need to be seperate, or 'one or the other'...
